What Host Organisations Say
"Youth Focus North East has hosted students on their Politics Work Placement for the last five years. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile process from our point of view. Organisations get some research time and, in our experience, well researched and well-structured research reports with ideas and recommendations that has helped inform thinking around our work. Students get an opportunity to develop their research skills in a meaningful way and also get to find out a bit more about the themes a range of organisations in our region are working on - we have had students researching the role of youth work organisations in supporting political engagement; the causes, consequences and potential solutions to youth loneliness; young people's engagement with environmental issues and activism; the role of social media in how young people engage with news; and perspectives on the routes to support young people's participation in 2021."

"The staff at Newcastle University made it a simple process to recruit and engage a student on placement with Groundwork. After a short interview and necessary HR procedures the successful candidate was recruited to the role. The programme was outlined for the duration of the placement with very clear goals. Groundwork conducted weekly supervisions and provided the necessary information, contacts and resources to enable them to deliver the project effectively. We would be happy to host another placement next year."
- Hellen Hornby, Groundwork
"The Key has had the pleasure of hosting several placement students in recent years and every single one of them has positively contributed to the work we do. In each case they have undertaken a project that has proved vital to our development and growth as an organisation, providing us with high quality research and recommendations for improving our offer to partners and young people. We’ve always found them to be motivated and engaged members of the team, often going above and beyond and getting involved in supporting our work. The support from the University is excellent and they make the process easy, providing information, support and advice with clear guidance on how to host a student and what the commitment will be. We have always found that investing time and resources into hosting a student results in a much greater return."
- Una MacDermott, The Key
